Diane Ellett

When recalling Diane we think of loving, loyal, supportive, and devoted. She loved being with people, cooking, travel, but most of all loved her husband and family. She died in Ocala, Florida on Sunday morning, May 29th, 2011, surrounded by her family on Memorial Day weekend.

Some of Diane’s favorite things were reading mystery novels, puzzles (jigsaw to crosswords), Yahtzee with her children and Bingo. She loved to travel and her favorite spot in the whole world was York Beach in Maine.

In the 1950’s, the Lansingburgh High School year book asked Diane to list her favorite pastime and she replied with one word, “Don”. Her love and trust for her husband Don was absolute. He survives her, as do their children and their families – son George and his wife Debbie, son Don and his wife Cindy, daughter Dawn Fisher, and daughter Debbie Lapietra and her husband Mike.

Diane was such an amazing cook that her children can’t decide if her chicken cordon bleu, veal piccata or lasagna were better. But her personal favorite was lobster!

Diane had fourteen grandchildren and a great grandchild. She leaves nieces and nephews, and friends across many States. Her beloved sister, Janet, predeceased her.

Family plans include traveling from Florida to take Diane “back home” to New York. They welcome your thoughts, comments, and favorite stories about Diane in the space provided below.

Words cannot express the deep loss our family has felt. We will all miss that wonderful lady that was know to most as Nana. She was there in a hurry during any family crisis in the Country. Although she didn't like to fly she sure racked up a lot of air miles coming to the rescue like only she could. She never had to ask what she could do, she just rolled up her sleeves and jumped right in to handle anything that came her way. Debbie LaPietra Ames, Ia

I missed her before she was gone. Nana was probably the most selfless women I've ever known. As heavy as our hearts are with grief, I am comforted in knowing that she has left behind something to live up to... her cooking. She was truly a beautiful women. I never thought my last conversation with her would be our last conversation. I really miss those.. Nana, oh how i wish you were here. -Cassie

Diane was a sweet lady. She treated anyone who came into her home as though they were family. She was always there for Don, Cindy and their whole family. I appreciated that she treated my sister Cindy like a daughter, and traveled wherever they were if she was needed. Diane was fun to be around and I enjoyed spending time with her. The love and pride she had for her family was obvious. I know she will be greatly missed.
