She is Gone
You can shed tears that she is gone
Or you can smile because she has lived
You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that she has left
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
Or you can be full of the love that you shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday
You can remember her and only that she is gone
Or you can cherish her memory and let it live on
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what she would want:
smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

On Tuesday, May 17th, 2011, Maria Esther went home to be with her beloved “Red”, Earl Mattle, who predeceased her in 1988. If only one word were to describe Maria Esther, it would be “loyalty”. She made a point to stay in touch with, and regularly visit, friends and family throughout her life. Having been a military wife, she loved her independence and traveled alone frequently. She was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on December 21st, 1920.
She is survived by her daughter Ella, her husband Trini, and their children Joel and Mindy; her son, Charlie, his wife, Sandra, and their children, Little Charlie and Jennifer; and her son Edwin, his wife, Cynthia, and their children, Shelby and Alex. Many other family members and friends are to be considered when remembering Maria Esther.
In her later years, Maria Esther enjoyed her daily routine of breakfast with Trini while Ella was at work. She loved her afternoon tele-novela, Caso Cerrado, and working puzzles like the crossword and Suduko. A favorite, special regularity were the trips to Burger King with Edwin after doctors’ appointments. And, Charlie and his family in Texas remember her for cooking “eggs in the hole” for breakfast.
To say she will be missed is not entirely accurate. The love Maria Esther shared with her family and friends will continue to go on for generations. You can see her impact shining from their hearts onto their faces. She was truly loved.
“Until we meet again, may God Hold you in the palm of his hand.” – Irish Prayer

Grandma,
I miss being able to call you and hearing you say my name. I miss seeing your face and your beautiful smile when we would come to visit you. I miss you dancing and laughing. But I know you are no longer suffering and you are dancing, laughing and smiling with Grandpa, your sisters and now my brother, Little Charlie. I miss you so incredibly much and I cannot wait for the day to see y'all again. I love you lots!
It has been 7 months since you left us. You are now home with your sisters and family. Titi Yolie and Pilar worked hard on getting you and Titi Alice back home. The Kluson Girls were able to be there. It was bad timing for me but we thought of you and bought you a Whopper Jr with an icee. Hope you are taking care of Little Charlie. We miss all of you.
Love you always, Ella
